Papuashvili: Ukraine's pressure on Georgia was violation of int'l law

Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili has accused Ukraine of violating international law, Report informs.

The statement was published on Papuashvili's social media page.

"Ukraine's pressure on Georgia demanding to send volunteers was a violation of international law, however, it appears that some people only remember laws when it concerns not others, but their own children," the politician stated.

He noted that in February 2022, immediately after the war began, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba demanded that Georgian volunteers be sent to Ukraine. Papuashvili emphasized that this would have been equivalent to involving Georgia in the war.

"I remind you that Georgia was the only country from which Ukrainian authorities demanded to send fighters. When Georgia refused, Kuleba recalled the Ukrainian ambassador, and the local opposition and NGOs organized protest actions on Rustaveli Avenue demanding, among other sanctions against Russia, to send Georgians to war under government auspices," he wrote.

Papuashvili added that now former Foreign Minister Kuleba "is trying to find justification in Ukrainian laws for why his 18-year-old son should not go to war to defend Ukraine."
