In the wake of recent tragic fires, Turkish authorities have sealed more than 210 hotels across the country during inspections for compliance with fire safety norms and necessary licenses.
Report informs via Turkish media that 161 hotels and villas have been sealed in the western province of Bursa, home to the popular ski resort of Uludag. The inspections revealed various violations, including lack of business licenses and non-compliance with safety requirements for equipping premises.
The crackdown comes in the aftermath of a devastating fire at a hotel in the Kartalkaya ski resort in Bolu province on January 21. The blaze claimed the lives of 78 people left around 50 others injured, out of the 238 guests present in the hotel.
President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that 28 people have been detained in connection with the fire incident.
