Alexander Lukashenko's main rival in the presidential election in Belarus, Svetlana Tikhanovskaya, will address the European Parliament on August 25, Report informs, citing the press service of the European Parliament.
"On August 25, Ms. Tikhanovskaya will make a video speech at a meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Brussels," the statement said.
EU Deputy High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Helga Schmidt will also attend the conference.
In the end, Belarus resolution, which will be put to the vote at the September plenary session of the European Parliament, is expected to be prepared.
The resolutions of the European Parliament are recommendatory, and their implementation is not mandatory even for EU institutions.
