Omicron accounts for 90% of COVID infections in Georgia

Omicron variant accounts for 90% of COVID infections in Georgia, Director-General at the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC) in Tbilisi Amiran Gamkrelidze said, the Georgian bureau of Report informs.

He noted that 1,600 cases of infection with a new strain have been registered in the country, only 16 infected people have been hospitalized.

Gamkrelidze added that in the next two weeks, cases of infection with the omicron strain will increase.

The first case of omicron infection in Georgia was registered on December 20.
