A new seaport has been built in the Georgian city of Poti, Report informs.

The official opening ceremony of the port was held today with the participation of Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili, members of the government and representatives of the diplomatic corps in Georgia.

According to the Georgian Ministry of Economy and Sustainable Development, the project was implemented through the joint efforts of PACE Group and the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC).

Poti New Seaport is one of the largest projects implemented in the maritime sector of Georgia so far. The cost of the project is $120 million. DFC allocated $50 million for the project.

The new port has an area of 25 hectares. The capacity will be 2.5 million tons of dry cargo per year and 100,000 TEU containers.
