Media: Khamenei funeral ceremonies cost around $800 million

Funeral ceremonies for Iran's former Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei have cost an estimated $800 million, according to a report by Iran International.

The outlet compared the figure with the funeral of Britain's Queen Elizabeth II, which reportedly cost the UK government about $200 million. The late monarch's funeral was attended by hundreds of senior foreign officials, featured several days of public lying-in-state at Westminster, extensive television coverage, a large-scale security operation involving tens of thousands of police and military personnel, and a period of national mourning.

Funeral ceremonies for Khamenei began on July 4 and are scheduled to conclude with his burial at the Imam Reza shrine in the northeastern city of Mashhad on July 9, according to Iranian state media.
