Krikorian: Extension of EU mission in Armenia could lead to regional confrontation

Strengthening the mandate of the European Union Mission in Armenia (EUMA), its expansion and extension of the deployment period could lead to further confrontation with regional powers, British journalist Onnik Krikorian said, Report informs.

"The European Parliament now calling to ‘increase the number of experts deployed as part of EUMA, to increase the mission’s capacity and to extend its deployment […] for five more years and its geographical scope to potentially include the Armenia-Türkiye border," Krikorian said in a post on X.

“Unlikely this will become reality. First, it will potentially usher in what has long been feared – further confrontation with regional powers, inc. against NATO member Türkiye let alone Russia, and second, EUMM in Georgia operates on two-year cycles. EUMA should be no different.”
