“Pashinyan traveled to France to get support from President Emmanuel Macron, who lobbies the interests of Armenia and does it unilaterally, without hesitation. Macron plays on the side of Pashinyan’s election campaign and makes statements that aren’t marked by political realism, but at the same time are designed to support Pashinyan’s position and Armenia as a whole,” Russian military expert, editor-in-chief of the National Defense magazine Igor Korotchenko said, the Russian bureau of Report informs.
At the same time, the Armenian lobby in France, judging by the slogans with which they met Nikol Pashinyan, doesn’t sympathize with the acting prime minister.
The expert noted that France is making a non-constructive contribution to the settlement of the situation in the South Caucasus and is violating its commitments, being the co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group: “By expressing sympathy for Armenia, France is violating its commitments as the co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group. The country should leave the Group because such open lobbying doesn’t correspond to the tasks that this organization sets for itself. Macron needs to behave like the president of France and not lobby the interests of individual countries. France lost its prestige a long time ago.”
Commenting on this visit of Pashinyan on his birthday, Korotchenko stressed that the acting prime minister of Armenia harmed his election campaign: “This can be interpreted as the use of official position for personal gain.”
