Kazakhstan to implement 5 major petrochemical projects worth $12B

Kazakhstan plans to implement five major oil and gas chemical projects with a total investment volume of around $12 billion, Report informs, citing the Ministry of Energy of the republic.

The projects are outlined under the Roadmap for the Development of the Petrochemical Industry for 2024–2030, which includes six key areas and 34 measures. Their implementation will create up to 20,000 permanent and temporary jobs while increasing domestic processing of raw materials, production volumes, and exports.

In Kazakhstan, the Kazakhstan Petrochemical Industries enterprise with a capacity of 500,000 tons of polypropylene per year is already operational. In 2025, the plant produced 375,000 tons of products.

Concurrently, a plant for the production of polyethylene with a capacity of 1.25 million tons per year is under construction, with commissioning scheduled for 2029. By the same deadline, a gas separation complex is planned to be launched to supply the new enterprise with essential raw materials.

In addition, projects for the production of up to 339,000 tons of butadiene and 880,000 tons of urea (carbamide) per year are being implemented in the country.

To establish uniform operating rules for the sector, the Ministry of Energy has drafted a bill "On the Petrochemical Industry." The document, currently under consideration by the Kurultai of Kazakhstan, provides for the regulation of raw material supply and pricing, domestic market development, supply planning, and state support for investment projects.

On the territory of the National Industrial Petrochemical Technology Park Special Economic Zone, 19 companies are registered, executing projects for the production of polypropylene, polyethylene, butadiene, and other products.
