Kazakh president explores co-op and regional security with Sergey Shoygu

Kazakh leader Kassym-Jomart Tokayev on Wednesday received Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoygu, according to Akorda, Report informs via Kazinform.

During the meeting, Kazakhstan-Russia cooperation in different areas of bilateral partnership and regional security was discussed.

Highlighting the great importance of Sergey Shoygu’s visit in deepening Kazakhstan-Russia cooperation, President Tokayev said that relations between the countries are developing on an upward trend. The Russian President’s state visit last November was of paramount importance, he added.

“It’s crucial that our economic interaction is also developing well, as agreements on 171 projects, of which over 50 projects are nearing completion, have been reached. Russia is among the top investors in the Kazakh economy,” Tokayev said.

The Kazakh leader also expressed his confidence that the two countries enjoy successful cooperation between their law-enforcement agencies and defense ministries.

“I believe that your visit is a good opportunity to reexamine our cooperation and agree on new areas of cooperation between our countries,” the Head of State added.

In turn, Secretary of Russia’s Security Council Sergey Shoygu thanked Kazakh leader Tokayev for the opportunity to meet and discuss the most pressing issues of regional security.

“The relationship our brotherly nations enjoy is constantly maintained at a very high level. The volume of our trade turnover and the number of mutual projects are impressive. Indeed, our interaction is not limited to bilateral cooperation, as our countries actively cooperate within the SCO, CSTO, CIS, and EAEU. The projects, including those initiated by Kazakhstan, are well underway,” Shoygu stated.

The meeting also saw both interlocutors exchange views on improving the efficiency of security cooperation.
