Japarov: Kyrgyzstan to reduce carbon emissions by 16% by 2030

Kyrgyzstan plans to reduce carbon emissions by 16% by 2030, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov said at the opening of the International Climate Forum within the EU - Central Asia summit, according to Report.

"In accordance with nationally determined contributions, we plan to reduce emissions by 16% by 2030 under the business-as-usual scenario, and with international support by 44%. We plan to achieve carbon neutrality through the development of renewable energy sources, improving energy efficiency, reducing coal consumption through gasification, decreasing losses in electricity transmission and distribution, as well as improving heating systems in cities," said the president.

He pointed to ongoing projects in the field of renewable energy sources, citing as an example the fact that over the past four years, 18 small hydroelectric power plants have been put into operation in Kyrgyzstan.

Japarov reminded that together with Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan, the implementation of the Kambarata HPP-1 construction project has begun.

In conclusion, President Sadyr Japarov called for active participation in these activities, emphasizing that promoting the interests of developing mountainous countries corresponds to one of the key UN principles - "Leave no one behind."
