Iran's COVID-19 recoveries hit 100,000

As of May 21, as many as 2,392 new patients with COVID-19 were diagnosed in Iran, and the number of patients with this disease reached 129,341, Health Ministry spokesman Kianoush Jahanpour said.

Fortunately, 100,564 patients have recovered and have been discharged so far, Jahanpour added.

In the past 24 hours, 66 COVID-19 patients have lost their lives, raising the death toll to 7,249, said the spokesperson.

"2,655 patients are in a critical condition," - he stated.

Furthermore, over the past 24 hours, no death has been reported in 12 provinces, with only one in six regions.

"So far, 746,45 COVID-19 diagnosis tests have been conducted in the country," the Health Ministry spokesman said.

In Iran, one of the countries in the Middle East hardest hit by the virus first detected COVID-19 in the city of Qom on February 19.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China's Hubei province, and the virus has spread to 212 countries and territories since then.

To date, COVID-19 cases surpassed 5,104,000 globally, resulting in more than 2,034,000 recoveries and over 329,000 deaths.

On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
