Iran and Russia may sign a comprehensive agreement on strategic partnership at the BRICS summit in October in Kazan or later in a separate meeting of presidents, with the work on the document already completed, Iranian ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali said.
"We have discussed this issue with our Russian counterparts. The first idea is indeed that," the diplomat said as he was answering the question of whether the agreement may be signed at the BRICS summit in Kazan.
"Because this summit is a large-scale event. Leaders from most countries have been invited. In addition, Russian President Vladimir Putin will be a hosting party and President of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian will have his first trip to Russia. We may also put off the signing for a separate meeting either in Tehran or in Moscow. This issue is currently in focus, with both variants considered. No decision has been made yet. The first variant is to sign the document on the sidelines of the summit in Kazan. The second variant is to sign it in a separate meeting."
The ambassador also noted that the work on the comprehensive agreement between the parties has been completed.
"We have virtually finalized it, with internal state procedures underway. The document is being prepared for signing," Jalali said.
