Iran moves toward withdrawal from NPT

A bill proposing Iran's withdrawal from the Treaty on ​the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear ⁠Weapons (NPT) has been drafted in the Iranian parliament, said Ali Nikzad, Deputy Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Report informs via Fars news agency.

Nikzad said the initiative is currently under review, including an assessment of its international implications.

He noted that the bill will be submitted to a plenary session under an "urgent" procedure, requiring lawmakers to consider it on the same day.

The official also recalled that Iran suspended cooperation with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in September last year. He described IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi as acting in bad faith.

"He is one of those people who comes, conducts inspections, praises us, and then leaves and prepares negative reports against us," Nikzad stated.

The deputy speaker argued that last year's decision was in Iran's interest: "Do we have even the slightest hope that the IAEA Director General or those working there will assist us in the field of nuclear energy? Of course not."
