IAEA chief to meet with head of Iranian nuclear regulator

Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Rafael Grossi intends to meet with the head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization to discuss problems related to the country's nuclear program on Monday, Report informs, citing TASS.

Speaking at the 66th Annual Session of the IAEA General Conference, Grossi said the IAEA is the nuclear regulator and it takes its job seriously.

Grossi noted that the organization should prevent proliferation of nuclear weapons and make sure that this good - nuclear energy for peace and development - is not turned into a tool of destruction and suffering.

According to him, more and more countries are moving towards nuclear energy.

There are currently several issues, including those that appear in the headlines, that the organization has to resolve with the Islamic Republic of Iran, he said.

Grossi saluted the chairman of the Iranian nuclear agency, whom he said he plans to meet later today to look for common solutions to problems that will not go away if the parties do not solve them in a cooperative manner.

Earlier, Grossi said that the IAEA cannot guarantee the exclusively peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program, since Tehran did not provide the necessary information on the origin of uranium particles at three sites.
