Güler: Ankara monument will symbolize Türkiye-Azerbaijan unity

The monument to the Caucasian Islamic Army erected in Ankara on the occasion of the liberation of Baku from occupation will become one of the symbols of Türkiye-Azerbaijan unity, Turkish National Defense Minister Yaşar Güler said.

According to Report's Türkiye bureau, Güler made the remarks at the unveiling ceremony of the monument to the Caucasian Islamic Army in front of the Shusha Congress Center at the Azerbaijani Embassy in Türkiye, held on the 108th anniversary of Baku's liberation from Bolshevik-Dashnak occupation.

He described the erection of such a monument in honor of the Caucasian Islamic Army as a significant event and thanked everyone who contributed to the initiative.

Recalling the unity, sacrifice and solidarity of the two brotherly peoples 108 years ago, Güler said the sons of Anatolia joined the ranks of the Caucasian Islamic Army in 1918 to support Azerbaijan's independence and help liberate Baku from occupation.

"Our heroes sacrificed their lives on this path, turning the eternal brotherhood between Türkiye and Azerbaijan into a sacred legacy passed down from generation to generation. I believe the monument we are unveiling today will keep their cherished memory alive and contribute to passing our shared history on to future generations. On such a day, I commemorate Nuru Pasha and the heroic soldiers of the Caucasian Islamic Army with mercy and gratitude," he said.
