Georgian capital again cancels traditional city holiday over pandemic threat

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the traditional city holiday Tbilisoba will not be held in Tbilisi this year as was last year. According to the local bureau of Report, this was announced by the city mayor, Kakha Kaladze.

He expressed regret that the festival will not be held this year either: “Today we are fighting an invisible enemy and the most important thing is public health. For this reason, we will not be able to hold holiday events this year either."

The mayor noted that the concert dedicated to Tbilisi and the awarding ceremony of honorary citizens of Tbilisi will be broadcast live.

We should note that the large-scale Tbilisoba city holiday has been organized in the Georgian capital since 1979. Previously, the festival was held in late October, but since 2018, it was celebrated on first Sundays of October.
