Georgia not to resume classes until September 1

"We have no plans to restore the educational process in Georgia," Georgian Bureau of Report quotes Prime Minister, Georgi Gakharia.

According to him, classes in schools and universities will not resume until September 1.

The coronavirus pandemic has upended schools, cutting off teachers from their students and forcing parents to fill the void, while pushing classrooms online in places where some students don't have the tools to get to them.

It has forced schools to make unexpected decisions about everything from feeding students to finances. They've had to create new grading methods to account for a disruption that is consuming the last quarter of the school year and develop plans to catch students up once it's safe to gather again. Since students from low-income households are less likely to have all the trappings of digital life, they are the most likely to fall behind.
