Georgia accumulates $40m to battle coronavirus

The family of Bidzina Ivanishvili, chairman of the Georgian Dream party, has donated 100 million lari ($32 million) to the Georgian StopCov fund to fight coronavirus.

So far, the fund has collected a total of 124,543,899 ($40 million), Report’s local bureau says.

The StopCoV fund was established on March 24. Several private companies and citizens, as well as members of the ruling party, and government officials make donations to the fund to combat coronavirus

On March 21, Georgia declared a state of emergency until April 21 to contain the spread of coronavirus.

Georgia has confirmed 211 cases of COVID-19 and three deaths so far.
