"Georgia wants to develop collaboration with the European Union, and we are ready for that," EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi said after a meeting of the Georgia-EU Association Council in Brussels.
According to him, there are great opportunities for the development of cooperation in the field of free trade:
"We would recommend, first of all, the use of tools available under the existing framework agreement. Georgia has decided to apply for EU membership in 2024. The member states will collectively consider this appeal and then make a final decision. At this stage, we are focused on the full and comprehensive implementation of the free trade contract."
In turn, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili noted that more opportunities were needed for deeper integration into the union: "We need to make our relations with the European Union more dynamic and reduce the physical distance between Georgia and the union."
He noted that Georgia sees its future together with the EU: "We have a commitment to go through this difficult and important path."
