The European Union has completed the Strengthening Intermodal Transport Services in Türkiye project, aimed at laying the groundwork for future investment in the country's transport infrastructure and improving the efficiency of freight transportation.
Report's European bureau informs that European Commissioner for Enlargement Marta Kos said this at the project's closing ceremony in Ankara.
According to her, amid changes in global trade routes and companies' efforts to diversify supply chains, the EU and Türkiye have a major shared opportunity to strengthen the region's transport connectivity and reduce dependence on individual routes.
Kos also said that, with the support of the EU and European financial institutions, nearly 1,000 km of railway lines have already been modernized in Türkiye, while about 156 km of new railway lines have been built.
