Erdogan askes parliament to extend Armed Forces' mandate in Syria and Iraq for 2 years

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has submitted to parliament for approval a document extending the mandate of the country's armed forces for two years to conduct operations in Syria and Iraq, according to the TRT TV channel, Report informs referring to TASS.

The army's current authority to operate in the two states expires on October 29. The president asked Parliament to extend them from October 30 for two years.

The document notes that the extension of the mandate is necessary to “take the necessary measures within international law against separatist movements, terrorist and all types of threats to the national security of Türkiye,” as well as “prevent attacks on Türkiye by all terrorist organizations operating in Iraq and Syria."

These measures also include cross-border transactions.
