The construction of new infrastructure at the Lagodekhi customs checkpoint on the border with Azerbaijan in Georgia proceeds intensively, Report informs, citing the Georgian Ministry of Finance.

Deputy Chief of the Tax Service Vladimir Khundadze and Head of the Customs Service Zurab Sichinava got acquainted with the restoration work.

The project envisages building six exits equipped with special modern equipment for customs control of trucks, passengers, and cars. The work covers an area of 21,000 square meters. The area will be completely renovated, and forty citizens were involved in the restoration work. Thirty-five customs officers will work at the checkpoint to be commissioned in six months.

Sichinava said that the development of customs infrastructure is one of the main priorities for Georgia. The new infrastructure will provide passengers with convenient and short-term service, reduce the intensive freight and passenger flows through the "Red Bridge" checkpoint, and provide employment for residents. At the same time, it will significantly contribute to the development of international transport through Georgia and Azerbaijan.

Notably, the reconstructed Lagodekhi station will serve about 600 trucks and 10,000 passengers a day.
