CSTO peacekeepers start operating in Kazakhstan

The Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) peacekeeping contingent has started its mission in Kazakhstan.

The CSTO troops sent to Kazakhstan include units of the armed forces of Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Armenia.

The peacekeepers to be sent by the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) to Kazakhstan will not take part in establishing order in the country but in protecting military structures and other objects of state importance, said Leonid Kalashnikov, head of the Russian State Duma's Committee on CIS Affairs, Report informs.

The CSTO headquarters said that the leaders of the member states would determine the composition, structure, and number of peacekeepers to be sent to Kazakhstan.

The CSTO includes Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, the Kyrgyz Republic, and Tajikistan.
