Ukraine’s confirmed coronavirus cases have doubled in the past week, Health Minister Maksym Stepanov has stated.
“Over the past day, 829 people have fallen, including 61 children and 66 healthcare workers, which is a new record set in Ukraine. If we analyze the figures over the last week and compare them even with monthly data, the number of daily cases has doubled,” Stepanov said at a briefing on June 18.
According to the health minister, this is because Ukrainians are not taking quarantine seriously.
As of June 18, Ukraine reported 34,063 coronavirus cases, including 829 COVID-19 infections confirmed in the previous day. In total, 15,447 patients have recovered, and 966 have died since the start of the coronavirus pandemic.
The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to more than 200 countries and territories since then.
To date, COVID-19 cases surpassed 8,425,000 globally, resulting in more than 4,433,000 recoveries and over 451,000 deaths.
On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
