"Despite the occupation of Karabakh, Iran supported Armenia," Aygun Attar, a Member of the Security and Foreign Policies Council, President of the Turkiye-Azerbaijan Friendship, Cooperation and Solidarity Foundation, wrote on Twitter.

She recalled that after the collapse of the USSR, Iran recognized the independence of Central Asian and the South Caucasus states on December 25, 1991:

"Iran took a common position with Russia to reduce Turkiye's influence in the region and supported it at every opportunity."
