Atambayev indicted on two more counts

Ex-President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev was charged with two more criminal cases - modernization of Bishkek’s Heating and Power Plant and acquisition of Forum building.

Report informs citing the RIA Novosti that the due statement came from his lawyer Sergey Slesarev.

"The Military Prosecutor’s Office presented a notice of suspicion of the former head of state of two crimes. The new charges relate to criminal cases on modernization of Bishkek’s Heating and Power Plant and acquisition of Forum building," said Slesarev. According to the lawyer, Atambayev did not sign the notification.

According to the lawyer, the new cases are based on conclusions of the parliamentary commission, which were approved by a majority of the deputies of the Parliament.

The accident at the only Thermal Power Plant in Bishkek, that provided heat and electricity to all multi-storey residential buildings, kindergartens, schools and hospitals of the capital of Kyrgyzstan, occurred in January 2018 during abnormal frosts. Following the accident in Kyrgyzstan, a scandal broke out over the modernization of the Thermal Power Plant, which was carried out at the expense of the Chinese loan and cost 386 million dollars.

Earlier, the former President of Kyrgyzstan Atambayev was accused of preparing a coup and murder.
