Armenian political scientist: Armenia's very existence contradicts US policy in region

Armenia contradicts the US policy in this region by its very existence, local political scientist Stepan Danielyan said, Report informs referring to the Armenian media.

He was speaking during a discussion on the topic "The impact of the processes taking place in the world on Armenia", commenting on Donfried's statement that assistance provided to Azerbaijan is in the interests of US national security.

Political scientist Argishti Kiviryan also noted that US Assistant Secretary of State for Eurasian Affairs Karen Donfried openly stated that the main goal is Iran, the second goal is to prevent the formation of a Russian-Iranian alliance and communications in this region.

"As a result of recent developments, Russia has found itself in such a position that it needs new roads, in particular, through this region to India. Russia has two ways to get to India through Iran. One through Armenia, the other through Azerbaijan. The US directly says that they will not allow these messages, therefore they support Azerbaijan. The circle around Iran is narrowing, this will lead to new events," Kiviryan stressed.

Political scientist Stepan Danielyan, who joined the discussion, added that the protection of the border between Armenia and Iran by Russian border guards has become a dangerous phenomenon.

“In fact, Armenia is against this policy because it has good relations with Iran, which are getting closer and are already beginning to acquire a military character, and there are Russian border guards there. In this regard, from the words of the assistant secretary of state, it follows that Armenia is contrary to US policy in this region by its very existence," Danielyan concluded.
