Armenia reports over 700 new COVID-19 cases

Armenia confirmed 711 new cases of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 21,717, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday.

The total number of recoveries has reached 10,797. Fourteen people have died in one day, raising the death toll to 386.

The number of active cases stands at 10,404.

Armenia extended a state of emergency over the coronavirus outbreak until July 13, as the number of daily infections continues to rise.

Despite the extension of the state of emergency, almost all sectors of the Armenian economy are functioning after businesses reopened in early May to prevent it from collapsing.

The novel coronavirus (COVID-19) emerged in late 2019 in China’s Hubei province, and the virus has spread to more than 200 countries and territories since then.

To date, COVID-19 cases surpassed 9,361,000 globally, resulting in more than 5,048,000 recoveries and over 479,000 deaths.

On February 11, the WHO officially named the 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV) as COVID-19, and on March 11, declared it a pandemic.
