The coronavirus incidence has risen sharply in Georgia, marking the beginning of the fifth wave, Report informs, citing Amiran Gamkrelidze, chief epidemiologist of Georgia, head of the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health.

According to Gamkrelidze, the epidemiological situation has worsened in Kakheti, Imereti, and Samegrelo-Zemo Svaneti regions over the past week.

“Vaccination rates are low in these regions. The situation is relatively good in Adjara and Tbilisi,” he said.

The chief epidemiologist predicts that the fifth wave will be quite severe.

“The situation will be challenging in November if appropriate preventive measures are not taken. I urge everyone to follow the recommendations and get vaccinated,” he added.
