The head of a leading hospital in China’s central city of Wuhan, the epicenter of a coronavirus outbreak, died of the disease on Tuesday.

Liu Zhiming, the director of Wuhan Wuchang Hospital, became the first head of a medical institution, who died of coronavirus. No other details were provided.

The novel coronavirus COVID-2019 outbreak was recorded in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late December. The infection further spread to other countries. As of February 17, the death toll from the disease reached 1,770 people in China alone, while there are more than 70,000 confirmed cases of infection.

On February 16, China started to produce a drug that may be effective in the fight with the disease, and the next day one of the universities in China announced the creation of an express-test to detect coronavirus.
