WHO does not recommend holding special border checks over H10N3 virus

The World Health Organization (WHO) has urged not to hold special checks for avian influenza H10N3 at borders between countries or impose any restrictions on trade or travel in connection with detecting the world's first case of human infection with the virus in China, said official representative of the WHO headquarters in Geneva, Tarik Jasarevic.

Report informs, citing TASS, that Jasarevic said WHO does not recommend special screening at points of entry. It also does not recommend the application of any restrictions on travel and trade.

Earlier on Tuesday, the State Committee for Hygiene and Health of the People's Republic of China said that a 41-year-old man from Zhenjiang City in the eastern Chinese province of Jiangsu had a fever at the end of April. He consulted a doctor a few days later due to a deterioration in his condition and was hospitalized. By now, his condition has stabilized and almost entirely meets the criteria for discharge from the hospital.

On May 28, the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention analyzed the patient's case record and concluded that the man had been infected with H10N3. All people who came into contact with him were placed under medical supervision, with no infection cases detected among them.
