Vance says risk of clashes between Israel and Hezbollah remains

US Vice President JD Vance has said that, despite ceasefire arrangements under the US–Iran agreement, there remains a risk of isolated clashes in Lebanon between Israel and the militant group Hezbollah.

According to Report, citing The Times of Israel, during a briefing at the White House Vance noted that the United States expects both sides to comply with the terms of the agreement and views it as part of a broader process aimed at ensuring stability in the Middle East.

"This is about regional peace. We expect Hezbollah not to launch rockets and drones at Israel. But we also expect Israel not to act without limits in Lebanon," he said.

The Vice President added that localized escalations may still occur during the implementation of the agreement: "We are already seeing significant progress in Lebanon - less shooting, fewer attacks, but from time to time such flare-ups will happen."

Vance also said that, in the long term, control over the situation in southern Lebanon should be transferred to Lebanese state institutions in order to prevent further strengthening of Hezbollah and reduce risks for Israel.
