US Secretary of State to pay his first-ever visit to Belarus

US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will pay a visit to Belarus.

Report, citing the Belarus Foreign Ministry, says this will be the first visit of a US Secretary of State to Belarus on record for relations between the two countries.

"The visit of US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo will take place in Belarus on February 1," deputy chief of the Information Office of the Belarusian Ministry of Foreign Affairs Andrei Shuplyak said.

Pompeo plans to visit London on January 29-30, then in Kyiv on January 30, and on February 1, he will arrive in Minsk and stay less than a day.

Earlier, the Secretary of State was to visit Minsk on January 4, with his talks with President Alexander Lukashenko planned. But the visit was put off due to the escalation in the Middle East.
