Evacuations are underway, and a federal state of emergency has been declared in Louisiana as Ida draws closer to a potential landfall as a major hurricane Sunday.
Evacuation orders were also issued for people in several areas Friday, including those living outside the levee system in New Orleans, including the communities of Lake Catherine, Irish Bayou, and Venetian Isles, Report informs, citing the Weather Channel.
"We're anticipating significant impacts including tropical storm force or stronger winds that could knock down trees and prolong power outages," said Collin Arnold, the city's emergency management director.
