Iran and Lebanon are among the countries hardest hit by the crisis, but its impact is not limited to these countries, Francine Pickup, deputy director of the UNDP Bureau of Policy and Program Support, said at an event during WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.
She noted that even if a lasting ceasefire is achieved in the region, the socioeconomic consequences will be felt for a long time.
"Iran has been under severe economic pressure due to sanctions, high inflation, and declining purchasing power. The military escalation has further exacerbated these problems. Our latest analysis also shows that poverty in Iran is rising," she said.
