UN Security Council temporarily lifts part of sanctions against North Korea

The UN Security Council has approved sanctions exemptions for the World Health Organization (WHO), which allow the import of tents into the DPRK, Report informs referring to Yonhap.

Earlier, on July 20, the UN sanctions oversight committee approved the temporary lifting of the ban on the import of five "multi-purpose" tents into the DPRK to provide humanitarian assistance to the civilian population. Thus, the UN wants to help North Korea deal with drought and other emergencies.

According to representatives of the committee, the exemption from sanctions will be valid for nine months. But it remains unclear when the goods will be delivered to North Korea, as Pyongyang still has very strict border controls due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
