Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel has rejected an offer from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres to become a high-level adviser to the organization, Report informs referring to the DPA agency.

Merkel "had a telephone conversation with the secretary-general on this subject, thanked him, but said that she would not accept his proposal," the ex-chancellor's office noted.

Merkel served as chancellor for 16 years.

The former chancellor has repeatedly said that she is not going to hold political posts after her resignation.

UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has invited former German Chancellor Angela Merkel to work for the organization, Report informs referring to the German agency DPA.

According to agency sources, this is a position in the High-level Advisory Board on Global Public Goods. At the same time, the UN doubts that Merkel will agree.

Guterres announced his proposal in an official letter sent to the ex-chancellor. Angela Merkel has not yet given an answer.

The High-level Advisory Board on Global Public Goods is one of Guterres’ flagship projects. The project was launched for the reform of the UN, and the secretary-general of the organization expected that former international leaders would work in it.
