The European Commission has begun transferring €3.9 billion to Ukraine for the purchase of drones, as part of a €90 billion Ukraine Support Loan program, Report informs, referring to the commission's press service.
It was noted that the payment represents the first installment of nearly €6 billion earmarked for strengthening Ukraine's defense capabilities through drone procurement.
This payment follows the transfer of €3.2 billion in macro‑financial assistance to Ukraine on June 25.
The commission added that the remaining portion of the first tranche for drones will be delivered in the coming days, in line with Ukraine's requests.
Subsequent payments are expected to be directed not only toward drones but also toward the acquisition of ammunition, missiles, and air defense systems.
