Two arrested in Italy over alleged spying for Russia

Italian police have arrested two people suspected of passing classified information to Russian intelligence, Report informs, citing Italian media.

According to law enforcement authorities, the suspects allegedly handed confidential information to a Russian intelligence officer in exchange for money.

One of those arrested is a 59-year-old former employee of Italy's intelligence services. He is believed to have regularly collected and sold classified information obtained from four serving military personnel who had access to restricted state information.

Police said the transferred materials concerned matters of importance to Italy's state security and political interests and, under the law, were required to remain classified or not be disclosed.
