Grant reviews, travel, and hiring are frozen indefinitely, it noted emphasizing that even small disruptions at the NIH can have serious consequences, particularly for young researchers.
The NIH, which annually distributes over $47 billion to support more than 300,000 researchers across 2,500 institutions, plays a pivotal role in the development of new medical technologies, including groundbreaking advancements like cancer immunotherapy. According to NIH data, every $1 invested in science generates $2.46 in economic activity, underscoring the significant economic benefits of biomedical research investments in the United States.
