Switzerland’s COVID-19 cases surpasses18 thousand in a single day

Switzerland reported the first coronavirus case on 25 February 2020 when a 70-year-old man in the Italian-speaking canton of Ticino, which borders Italy, tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. The man had previously visited Milan. Afterward, multiple cases related to the Italy clusters revealed in various cantons, including Basel-City, Zürich, and Graubünden. Numerous isolated cases not associated with the Italy clusters were also subsequently confirmed.

Switzerland recorded more than 1,100 new cases of COVID-19 in one day, bringing the total number of infected people to 18,267, Report informs, citing the RIA Novosti.

According to official data by the Federal Office of Public Health, 1,128 new cases of coronavirus were detected in the country during the day. Besides, the death toll from the pandemic reached 54 during the day. Thus the total number of victims increased to 432.
