Sweden to mediate in Yemen conflict

Swedish Foreign Minister Margot Wallström will visit several Gulf countries to act as mediator in the peace process in Yemen, Report informs citing the RIA Novosti.

"Foreign Minister Margot Wallström will visit Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Jordan from August 31 to September 4 to hold a series of meetings on bilateral and regional issues with a focus on the crisis in Yemen," the Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

Along with this, the Minister intends to meet with UN representatives to discuss the situation in the region.

"We must adhere to the fragile agreement reached in Stockholm, and we (Sweden - ed.) feel our responsibility for this. We acted as a host, made our contribution to the negotiations, the parties to the conflict express confidence in us, and it is our responsibility to try to ensure that the agreement is implemented, "said M. Wallström.
