Fifty-five percent of Germans surveyed by YouGov on the order of the DPA news agency believe Germany’s intelligence agencies are not successful enough in the fight against foreign spies, Report informs.
Only 20 percent of respondents have the opposite opinion. At the same time, almost a quarter of the respondents had difficulty expressing a specific opinion on the matter. Sociologists attribute this to the fact that the work of special services is mainly in the shadows, and what they do is visible to citizens as the work of the police.
According to the survey results, people who voted for the Christian Democratic Union, the Greens or the Social Democratic Party of Germany trust the German special services more.
The questions regarding the quality of work of special services arose after the arrest of a German Federal Intelligence Service employee on suspicion of spying for Russia on December 21.
