German Chancellor Olaf Scholz called the adoption of the migration policy tightening plan by the opposition bloc of the Christian Democratic Union and Christian Social Union in the Bundestag on Wednesday a bad sign for the country, Report informs.
This plan was also supported by deputies from the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
"For the first time in the German Bundestag, the proposal was passed by a majority vote with the support of AfD. This is a bad sign for both the parliament and our country," Scholz said on X.
According to the chancellor, he will need time to "comprehend" what happened. Some will undoubtedly call this day historic.
On Wednesday, 348 deputies voted in favor and 345 against the initiatives presented to the Bundestag by the Christian Democratic Union and Christian Social Union bloc. The proposal adopted by the parliament provides for permanent border control at all German borders, deportation of illegal migrants, and prohibition of entry into the country for migrants without valid documents, even if they have protection status under German law.
