The current Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, will continue to hold his post until December 2, 2027, Report informs.
Grossi himself announced the decision during a press conference.
His candidacy was approved by delegates during the 67th session of the organization's general conference.
Speaking after taking the new oath of office, Grossi noted that in recent years, global security has faced serious challenges, including the coronavirus pandemic.
According to him, for the first time, the safety and reliability of the nuclear program were under serious threat. In addition, the world is suffering from climate change, poverty, hunger and food shortages.
Grossi took the oath of office as the sixth Director General of the IAEA on December 2, 2019.
