Over 50 children die in Bihar, India, from brain disease linked to lychee fruits

At least 53 children have died in Bihar, in northern India, from a brain disease thought to be linked to lychee fruit, Report informs citing the RIA Novosti.
Local health services report that all cases of child deaths were recorded in Muzaffarpurdistrict of Bihar state, where there are many gardens of these trees. All those infected had acute encephalitis syndrome, as well as a sharp drop in blood glucose levels, which could be the result of ingestion of toxins contained in the fruit of lychee.
More than 40 children are being treated in intensive care with similar symptoms to those who died in the district.
