New IAEA Director General Elected

The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Board of Governors is set to appoint Argentina's Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Rafael Grossi as its new director general, Russia's Permanent Representative to International Organizations in Vienna Mikhail Ulyanov announced.
Report informs citing Interfax that four candidates participated in the voting. To win, the candidate needed to score 2/3 of the votes.
On July 22, the IAEA reported that IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano died at the age of 72.
The new Director General must take office no later than January 1, 2020.
The IAEA was established in 1957. The organization is part of the UN.
