Nearly 200 million people protesting in India

Baku. 8 January. REPORT.AZ/ Nearly 200 million people in India are holding a two-day nationwide protest that took off on Tuesday upon the call of a number of national labor unions and left-wing movements.

Report informs citing NDTV that the protest participants demand increase in minimal wage and pensions in different industrial spheres, improvement of social conditions, creation of jobs for the unemployed youth and set other demands.

They accuse the central government of the refusal to protect workers' rights. Some peasant and farmer unions also joined the action.

In a number of regions the protest participants block railways and motor roads. Clashes with police were recorded in Western Bengalia and Kepala.

Schools and other educational facilities are closed in some of the regions. Most shops, stores and officers are closed in cities.
