The group of twenty (G20) reached concensus on the admission of the African Union, European Council President Charles Michel told journalists upon arrival in the capital of India, which will host the G20 summit on September 9-10.
The African Union, which includes 55 countries, is invited to the G20 summits, but insists on becoming a permanent member with the same status as the EU, Michel said. Now a concensus has been reached on this, the Financial Times quotes Charles Michel as saying. African countries should be more widely represented in the international arena, he said.
